The Castro Theatre reopened after two years of renovation and restoration on February 6, 2026, with an opening ceremony that featured David Perry of David Perry & Associates, “Beach Blanket Babylon” star Ruby Day singing “San Francisco,” President of the SF Board of Supervisors Rafael Mandelman, State Senator Scott Wiener, Mayor Daniel Lurie, Another Planet Entertainment CEO Gregg Perloff, Another Planet Entertainment Senior Vice President Mary Conde, and drag artist and Oasis owner D’Arcy Drollinger.
Mary, who oversaw the renovation and restoration of the theater, cut the rainbow ribbon with D’Arcy. The San Francisco Pride Band then played “Dance the Night.” The program, which was a benefit for the Castro Community Benefit District on the district’s 20th Anniversary, featured a tribute to Castro Theatre organist David Hegarty (with the theater since 1978), and an unprecedented gathering of drag stars who performed to “Mamma Mia,” a song featured in the night’s film showing: The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert. Co-emcees for the evening were Sister Roma and Dirty Carol.
Outside, searchlights marked the night sky in front of the theater. The San Francisco Bay Times was the media sponsor of the event. Andrea Aiello and Paul Miller of the Castro CBD were key to the programming and were also honored.
