Help Is on the Way XXXII: Broadway & Beyond, hosted at the Marines’ Memorial Theatre on August 2, 2026, delivered an unforgettable night of world-class entertainment while serving as a vital fundraiser. The event raised crucial funds for two major initiatives: Project Open Hand, which delivers nutritious meals to homebound seniors and individuals with severe disabilities, and Richmond/Ermet Aid Foundation’s (REAF’s) Small Emergency Grants Program, which provides short-term financial assistance to people navigating sudden personal crises.
Co-chaired by REAF board members Sophie Azouaou and Dr. Greg Hammer, the evening commenced with a televised greeting from Governor Gavin Newsom. Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis subsequently presented Azouaou with a gubernatorial commendation honoring her dedicated community service. Azouaou was further celebrated throughout the night, receiving commendations from San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie and State Treasurer Fiona Ma, as well as the prestigious REAF Community Award.
The spotlight then turned to a stellar lineup featuring stars of stage and screen alongside the touring Broadway cast of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Despite a demanding schedule of eight weekly shows, the cast rehearsed entirely new music and choreography to deliver an inspiring performance centered on hope and unity. The show included a successful Fund-a-Need drive and live auction before concluding with an emotional ensemble rendition of REAF’s classic anthem, “Help Is on the Way,” written by David Friedman.
The festivities wrapped up with an elegant VIP reception chaired by Stephanie Block in the Grand Ballroom at the Beacon Grand Hotel. Attendees mingled with the cast while enjoying fine wine, cocktails, and gourmet bites. The high-profile crowd included, in addition to Lieutenant Governor Kounalakis and State Treasurer Ma, distinguished figures such as Haute Living founder Olivia Decker, Stanford’s Dr. Oliver Dorigo, luxury real estate agent Joel Goodrich, and San Francisco International Airport advisor Francis Tsang.
