As San Francisco celebrated Fleet Week this year, the busy heart of the Castro District transformed into a lively outdoor concert venue when Navy Band Southwest’s Brass Band performed at Jane Warner Plaza. On Thursday afternoon, October 8, 2026, a crowd of neighborhood residents, visitors, and passersby—including Juan Davila of the San Francisco Bay Times—gathered around the plaza at 17th and Castro Streets as the military ensemble filled the air with energetic brass arrangements and crowd-pleasing numbers. The street-level pop-up performance drew enthusiastic applause, temporarily rerouting local Muni transit lines like the F Market & Wharves to give the musicians and audience ample room to celebrate.
The Jane Warner Plaza show was part of Fleet Week’s neighborhood concert series, which brings military musicians directly into San Francisco’s distinct communities alongside the traditional waterfront festivities and air shows. Following their performance in the Castro, the Navy Band Southwest musicians continued their citywide tour, appearing at venues ranging from the Ferry Building to local neighborhood plazas throughout the remainder of Fleet Week. https://bit.ly/47Za5FN
