Bingo, Bikes, and the Road to 50

Sometimes the best way to build momentum for the future is to gather, laugh, and celebrate the community that brought us to where we are today.

As the San Francisco Dykes on Bikes® (DOBTM) prepares for our historic 50th Anniversary ride at San Francisco Pride this June, we are kicking off the season with an afternoon that promises plenty of laughter, connection, and a little fabulous chaos.

On Sunday, March 22, from 3–7 pm, we’ll be hosting a community get-together and fundraiser for DOB at the legendary White Horse Bar, one of the longest-running LGBTQ bars in the country and a beloved gathering place for generations of queer community.

The afternoon will feature music, dancing, games, prizes, and plenty of opportunities to connect with friends old and new. The centerpiece of the afternoon will be Drag Bingo from 4–5 pm, hosted by the incomparable Leggy Pee, an Oakland-based drag and theater artist and proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community. With sharp wit, theatrical flair, and a whole lot of sass, Leggy Pee will keep the room laughing while players compete for some fabulous prizes.

And the fun won’t stop there. We’re also excited for another fundraiser on April 24th at Rikki’s in the Castro, timed to coincide with Lesbian Visibility Week. We’re excited to gather in San Francisco for another evening of community, celebration, and support for the work that keeps our organization running strong. Details to come!

A big thank you to The White Horse, San Francisco Bay Times, Rikki’s, and everyone who has already reached out with an offer to support us in fundraising as we look towards this milestone year.

As we approach our 50th anniversary, that sense of connection feels especially meaningful. What began nearly five decades ago as a bold act of visibility by a group of Dykes moving their motorcycles to the front of the parade has grown into an international movement with chapters across the United States and around the world. This June, Dykes from chapters across the United States and as far away as Australia will be traveling to San Francisco to celebrate that milestone with us. When our engines roar to life on Market Street this Pride, they will carry with them the history, courage, and community spirit of everyone who helped make those fifty years possible.

Registration to ride with Dykes on Bikes in the San Francisco Pride Parade is now open. For many riders, joining the contingent on Market Street has become an annual tradition and a cherished part of their Pride celebration. For others, this may be the year they decide to ride with us for the very first time as we mark our 50th anniversary. Riders who would like to participate can register by visiting https://sfpride.org/

But before Pride arrives, we hope you’ll join us in Oakland on March 22 at the White Horse. Come, play bingo, have fun, win a prize. And help us build the road toward the next 50 years of Dykes on Bikes.
