First Look at the Newly Restored & Renovated Castro Theatre

Ahead of the reopening of the historic Castro Theatre after two years of renovation and restoration, the San Francisco Bay Times got an inside look at the theater on February 4, 2026.

Bay Times columnists Donna Sachet and Beth Schnitzer were among the first to tour the theater with David Perry as their guide. Also attending was photographer Mike Kirschner, who took all of the images in this slideshow that features vintage Wurlitzer organ music.
