Maven of the Outdoors – Meet Guide Kim Powell

She’s renowned and loved throughout the Bay Area and beyond as a top guide for outdoor activities with friends, family, school groups and others. Since 1985, with the founding of her business Blue Water Ventures, Kim Powell has been living her dream, and she welcomes all to live it with her.

It’s safe to say that Kim Powell is out there! Here are just a few of her recent adventures: whale watching on Monterey Bay, visits with the elephant seals at Año Nuevo Point, swimming with manatees in Florida, exploring rain forests in Belize, kayaking at Loon Lake in the Sierras or Elkhorn Slough near Monterey or the sea caves of Mendocino, or…well, we could go on. What’s more, she does it all with a contagious poise and enthusiasm that rarely fail to inspire even the most reluctant participants.

For over 25 years, Kim has welcomed thousands on her outings. Trips for beginners, intermediate-skilled, and seasoned pros are planned. Varying from day-trips at Northern California locales to longer ones visiting distant sites, outings are offered for women, LGBT organizations, private groups, families or businesses. Destinations outside of the Bay Area include Baja California, Caribbean Islands, Micronesia and more.

Equipped with a master’s degree in Environmental Interpretation, her natural curiosity and years of experience, Kim brings an amazing reputation for service and expertise.
