SF Bay Times to Partner with Warriors for First LGBTQ Night at Chase Center

The San Francisco Bay Times is proud to partner with the Golden State Warriors for the first ever LGBTQ Night at the Chase Center! Join us for this historic event on Wednesday, October 30, when the Warriors will take on the Phoenix Suns. Helping to cheer on the Bay Area’s champion superstar team will be Warriors President Rick Welts and his partner Todd Gage.

Welts told the San Francisco Bay Times, “San Francisco’s historic leadership role in all human rights causes makes our return to San Francisco, and our first LGBTQ Night here, a special celebration for all who believe in equal rights for all our citizens.”

    Warriors Show Their Pride

Under Welts’ skillful leadership, the Warriors in 2017 became the first defending NBA championship team to host an LGBT Pride Night. The San Francisco Bay Times was part of that effort, as we were for last year’s Pride Night when the Warriors defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Chase Center is a literal game changer, however. The new state-of-the-art facility sports many jaw-dropping features, such as the NBA’s largest and brightest scoreboard, with nearly 75 million energy-efficient LED lights; promotion of sustainable practices; farm-to-table dining; over 18,000 arena seats; 3.2 acres of plaza and public space, with 24,000 square feet of the plaza facing the waterfront; luxurious suites; and a wealth of other amenities.

Members of our team were at the Center in September for the spectacular Elton John concerts as part of his Farewell to Yellow Brick Road tour. The venue’s light and sound design enhanced the unforgettable performances. The stadium’s different levels were easily accessible, especially thanks to the friendly staff who escorted guests, if needed.

Bon Appétit Management Company and Levy Restaurants (famous for providing the delicious fare at Google) manage the stadium’s food and beverage program. A partnership with local restaurants, called Taste Makers, has brought in favorites like Bakesale Betty, Big Nate’s BBQ, CC Made, La Cocina (featuring Alicia’s Tamales), Old Skool Cafe, Sam’s Chowder House and many others.

    Chase Center Dream Becomes Reality

The heart and soul of the Chase Center, however, are the Warriors and Welts, who spearheaded construction of the Mission Bay-located facility. We asked him how he is feeling, now that the dream of the Center has become a reality.

“Tired!” he said. “Seriously, I am so proud of the entire Warriors and Chase Center team,” he quickly added. “It has been a once-in-a-lifetime journey, and each person in our organization contributed to the final product we are proud to call Chase Center. Seeing it through others’ eyes as they experience Chase Center and Thrive City for the first time makes every minute spent creating it worthwhile.”

“Thrive City” refers to the site’s community gathering space created by the Warriors in partnership with Kaiser Permanente to promote health and wellness in the greater Bay Area. The scenic open-air district offers a year-round resource for families, fans, visitors, and neighbors to build community at a variety of festivals, farmers markets, dining experiences, community events, and more.

    Warriors LGBTQ Night 2019

But we are most excited now about the upcoming LGBTQ Night on October 30. With your ticket you will receive a commemorative Warriors LGBTQ Night T-shirt. The first 10,000 through the doors will get a Steph Curry Popcorn Edition Bobblehead, courtesy of Kaiser.

If you’re among the first 150 guests, you will enjoy a pre-game Shootaround Experience. This will allow you to sit in the lower level to watch the players warm-up before tip-off. Legendary entertainer and San Francisco Bay Times columnist Donna Sachet is also scheduled to perform.

Welts and his colleagues could not share more about the entertainment, but they could hardly contain their excitement when just thinking about the night. They promise that the entertainment will be spectacular, so we are just as curious as you probably are concerning who else might appear. Donna + the Warriors already sounds like a perfect night to us!

Your game day ticket is additionally your all-day Muni ticket, making travel to the Chase Center and any other City stops that day easy.
