Folsom Street Fair is an annual kink, leather subculture, and alternative sexuality street fair, typically held in late September that concludes San Francisco’s “Leather Pride Week.” The Folsom Street Fair, sometimes referred to simply as “Folsom Fair,” takes place on the last Sunday in September, on Folsom Street between 8th and 13th streets, in San Francisco’s South of Market district. This year the Fair will magically materialize on September 27, 11 am–6 pm.
The American president (I try to forget his name) has called his War Against Iran “small potatoes.” I had never heard this expression before and had to look it up. “Insignificant issues: You use it to describe a problem or amount that is very small compared to a larger, worse issue.” In the real world, so far the Rump’s War has left 18 U.S. Service Members dead, and has cost U.S. taxpayers more than $37.5 billion. Sister Dana sez, “I think Trump meant to say that his BRAIN is small potatoes!”
War Boys by Jason Prokowiew is an extraordinary exploration of a family experiencing intergenerational trauma: an adult son seeking to understand his terrifying and abusive father, interwoven with a biography of his father, who experienced unimaginable horrors as a child during World War II. Prokowiew was in conversation with Bud Gundy followed by an audience Q&A on September 14 at Fabulosa Books.

Convicted Felon Trump has pledged $5,000 to every American Republican after (he hopes) the Congressional Republicans win the midterm election. This is not only a blatant lie, but also, he is “buying” voters that might have switched parties until they heard the enticing monetary bribe to vote red not blue. Sister Dana sez, “But isn’t this an illegal, unlawful act for a President? Oh, that’s right—I forgot that there is NO LAW that this plutocratic autocrat cannot break and get away with!”
Castro Street Fair is on October 4, 11 am–6 pm. Founded by Harvey Milk in 1974, the Castro Street Fair began as a celebration of gay-owned businesses and the vitality of the Castro neighborhood. More than five decades later, the Fair continues that legacy by bringing together LGBTQIA+ people, neighbors, families, artists, performers, merchants, community organizations, and allies for a joyful celebration of queer life and community connection.
This year’s theme, “Where We Belong,” honors the Castro as a place where generations of LGBTQIA+ people have found community, safety, visibility and joy, and affirms that the neighborhood remains a beacon of freedom and diversity today.
The theme also creates space for a broader declaration of belonging: Where trans people belong. Where drag belongs. Where chosen family belongs. Where hope belongs. Where We Belong!
