The Academy’s Legends Awards ceremony for 2023 was held on Saturday, November 11, at the Swedish American Hall. The annual event honors members of the LGBTQIA+ community who have led by example in making San Francisco a more dynamic, vibrant, and interesting place to live.
Hosted by Sister Roma, the program included a tribute performance honoring the late Heklina.
The night’s top honor was presented to Peter Berlin. His camera, which he used to take many of the images that made him an icon, was installed on permanent display at The Academy’s Legends Archive.
Also honored were the following community award recipients: Carolyn Wysinger, Exemplar; Terry Asten Bennett, Bridge Builder; and West Walker, The Architect Award.
