Horizons Foundation hosted its annual gala evening, entitled A Night of Pride, on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Westin St. Francis San Francisco on Union Square. More than 400 attendees filled the grand ballroom to raise money for Horizons’ crucial work, support the Bay Area’s LGBTQ nonprofit ecosystem, and celebrate the 24-year legacy of the foundation’s President Roger Doughty, who is retiring in November.
Several elected officials gave remarks at the pre-dinner reception. U.S. Representative and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi presented Doughty with a decorative tray and praised him for “making America more American.”
State Senator Scott Wiener presented Doughty with an official resolution from the California Senate commending him for his long and distinguished record of professional service and for his outstanding community leadership.
Jupiter Peraza, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie’s Community Liaison to the Tenderloin, presented an official proclamation on behalf of Mayor Lurie’s office that declared October 3, 2026, Roger Doughty Day in San Francisco. Additionally, during the program, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, led by Sister Roma, officially blessed Horizons Foundation and sainted Doughty as Saint Philanthrope the Adept as part of the Order of Perpetual Indulgence.
“I am immensely grateful to have been a part of Horizons’ 46-year history building a world where all LGBTQ people live freely and fully,” Doughty said. “It fills my heart with so much joy that our work has been recognized in these amazing ways, and to see our community come together in celebration and pride. It’s a memory I will cherish forever. Thank you to everyone who played a role in making it such a special and meaningful evening.”
Doughty’s successor Vincent Jones, the incoming CEO of Horizons Foundation, was introduced to the Horizons community during the program and provided his vision for the future while honoring Doughty’s decades of work dedicated to the LGBTQ movement and the San Francisco Bay Area.
“We inherited Horizons because people most of us never met believed our lives and our freedom were worth investing in,” said Jones during his closing remarks. “Now it is our turn to build something worthy of those who come next.” https://www.horizonsfoundation.org/
