Dyke March 2025 Committee leaders Crystal Mason, Judy Graboyes, and M. Rocket joined forces with the San Francisco Bay Times team and Catch French Bistro managers Amira “Amy” Daboussi and Alberto Garcia-Sosa to create a memorable fundraiser and celebration on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
Activist Alex U. Inn, who was honored later the same day at San Francisco City Hall, served as emcee, and garnered applause from all attending with heartfelt remarks about The Dyke March and prompted attendees to open their wallets to support the return this year of the historic march that was cancelled in 2024. (Dedicated marchers still gathered at Dolores Park that year, as reported in the Bay Times in July 2024: https://bit.ly/44rmbaf )
Grammy-nominated recording artist Nadirah Shakoor, local favorite Dr. Dee Spencer, and DJ Lady Ryan presented by Olivia Travel delivered rousing music performances. A standing-room only crowd filled the historic space at 2362 Market Street that previously housed The Names Project workshop and for a time was occupied by Harvey Milk’s camera store.
First Lady of the Castro Donna Sachet, dressed in signature red, joined Shakoor in singing “Happy Birthday” to the Bay Times’ Dr. Betty Sullivan, with Music by Black providing sound engineering.
Special guest speakers included San Francisco Board of Supervisors President Rafael Mandelman and Curve publisher Franco Stevens, who acknowledged the conclusion of 2025 Lesbian Visibility Week activities.
Additional fundraisers are planned to support The Dyke March 2025, including a Super Big Gay Dance Party with DJs Edaj & Olga T at El Rio in the Mango event series on Saturday, May 10, 3–8 pm. http://www.elriosf.com
Special thanks to Susan Berston and artist Debra Walker.
